The Extended Trade and Manufacturing app extends the standard Business Central processes for manufacturing, purchasing, inventory, and material planning. It brings related demand and supply information closer to production users and adds tools for identifying material requirements, preparing output postings, and working with lot and package numbers.
The app is intended for production planners, production supervisors, inventory and warehouse users, purchasing users, and consultants who maintain manufacturing data. It complements the standard Business Central pages and uses the existing items, production BOMs, production orders, purchase orders, journals, item tracking codes, and number series.
1) Material availability and demand information
Additional fields on production order component lines, production order component line lists, purchase lines, and purchase order lines show demand and supply information for the related item. Depending on the page, users can see quantities on sales orders, quantities on component lines, inventory, net availability, and quantities on purchase orders.
This information helps production planners and purchasers assess whether a component is available, already expected from purchasing, or required by other production orders. The values provide context while reviewing component shortages and purchase requirements; they do not replace the standard planning calculation or posting processes.
2) Material Planning in BOM Structure
A dedicated material planning flag lets users identify items that should be included in material planning. Users can maintain the flag on the item card or item list, and can review or change it for component lines in the BOM Structure page.
When a BOM structure is opened, the material planning status is initialized from the related item. Changes made in the BOM structure are synchronized back to the item so that the item master and the structure remain consistent. From the item, production BOM, or BOM Structure pages, users can open the planning worksheet. The Calculate Plan report can also be filtered to items marked for material planning. The BOM Structure page provides actions to activate or deactivate material planning for all visible component lines, or to deactivate it for all items.
Only one user can work with material planning for the same item at a time. This session control prevents competing changes while the material planning worksheet is being used.
3) Production and Output Journal
The app supports output journal preparation for production orders. A journal batch can be configured to automatically explode the routing when a production order number is entered. Users can choose whether the routing suggestion should include all operations or only the last operation.
The Create Customized Lot No. action can split an output quantity into several output journal lines. It can increment lot numbers and, when required, create or increment package numbers. The package number can be entered manually or suggested from the Package Nos. number series configured in Inventory Setup. The action is intended for output journal lines and validates the entered quantities and number values before creating the lines.
