 General

Item Stock Style extends Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central with visual inventory indicators for items. Configurable thresholds and styles help warehouse, purchasing, and sales users recognize low, medium, and high stock levels in the item list. Rules can be maintained for individual items or centrally for item categories.

 App Setup

Use the Stock Styles page to define how inventory levels are highlighted. You can define a rule for an individual item or reuse one rule for all items in an item category.

Rule Selection

An item-specific rule has priority. If no such rule exists, the app uses the rule assigned to the item's category. When that category has no rule, parent categories are checked until a rule is found. Without a matching rule, no stock style is applied.

Recommended Setup

  1. Create category rules for inventory ranges shared by several items.
  2. Create item rules only where an item requires different thresholds or styles.
  3. Ensure that Threshold 1 is lower than Threshold 2.
  4. Review the result on the Item List Stock Style page.

Range Evaluation

RangeCondition
LowInventory is less than or equal to Threshold 1.
MiddleInventory is greater than Threshold 1 and less than or equal to Threshold 2.
HighInventory is greater than Threshold 2.

 Working with the App

The app visually classifies item inventory as low, middle, or high. The style shown for an item is calculated from its current inventory and the applicable stock style rule.

Before You Start

Create at least one stock style rule. Category rules are useful as defaults, while item rules allow exceptions for individual items.

Main Process

  1. Open Stock Styles.
  2. Select whether the rule applies to an item or an item category, and then select its number.
  3. Enter two increasing thresholds and select the style for each inventory range.
  4. Open Item List Stock Style to review item number, description, and inventory with the calculated visual style.
  5. Select an item to open its item card when detailed item information is needed.

Automatic Maintenance

When an item or item category is deleted, its directly assigned stock style rule is deleted automatically.

 Item List Stock Style

Use this read-only list to review item inventory with the visual style determined by the applicable stock style rule. The style is applied to the item number, description, and inventory.

How the Style Is Determined

The current total inventory is compared with the two thresholds. An item rule takes priority over category rules; parent category rules are used as fallbacks. Items without a matching rule are displayed without an additional style.

Fields
